Ikea to do budget design hotels - Low-cost car hire from CarJet
Ikea to do budget design hotels

Photo by Calvin Teo. Inter Ikea, the company who own the brand behind everyone's favourite budget flat packing furniture store (as well as rather tasty meatballs… I think so at least, anyway!) are branching out to create a range of hotels throughout Europe. Describing them as 'budget design' hotels, they won't come flat-packed but they do aim to give customers a boutique hotel experience at an affordable price.

They won't be recognisable as Ikea as they won't use the name or actually be run by the Swedish company (I'm guessing too that they won't be bright blue and yellow on the outside either although I suppose they may well use some of the furniture they're so famous for!). An already established hotel operator will run the hotels and the first of them to be built will be revealed in Germany in the next few weeks.

Other brands that have already rolled out budget boutique hotels include Base2Stay in London, Chic and Basic in Barcelona, Madrid and Amsterdam as well as Motel One across Germany including Berlin. Motel One also have a hotel in Edinburgh. For people on a budget, I reckon more hotels in the field of budget boutique can only be a good thing!
