easyJet founder, Sir Stelios, is again hoping to bring low-cost air travel to the masses – this time in Africa.

Coming to African skies soon...
This is an artist impression of the proposed airline but it’s a step closer to becoming a reality.
Progress was made with the announcement that Rubicon Diversified Investments, which Sir Stelios’ easyGroup have a 5% stake in, have bought out African group, Lonrho’s aviation arm, Fly540.
Speaking about the deal, chairman of Rubicon, Robert Burnham, said that “the combined talents of Rubicon’s management team and our partners from Lonrho and Sir Stelios’ easyGroup will transform Fly540, already a growing and successful business, into FastJet, a low-cost, point-to-point, no frills all jet airline for Africa”.
Sir Stelios and former easyJet chief operating officer, Ed Winter, are set to lead the management board of FastJet once the deal is complete. They are hoping to bring FastJet to Kenya, Tanzania, Angola and Ghana.
Welcoming the news, Sir Stelios said "This is another small but significant step in bringing the dream of low cost air travel to millions of people in Africa – the aviation industry's last frontier."
