When open umbrellas don't mean it's miserable out

31 July 2012 By Luna Dizon
Put some colour in your life to brighten your day and check out these photos on an umbrella art installation on a street in the small town of Águeda in Portugal if you're not convinced. The town is only an hour's drive south from Porto in the north. The region it's in is also famous for serving up delicious roast suckling pig. That's all I need to know to want to head there!

Oh so beautiful Porto

02 July 2012 By Luna Dizon
Famous as the home of Port, the star attraction for me wasn't the sweet wine but the city itself. Beautiful buildings look like they pile on top of each other on Porto's hills, contemporary designs inside bars and restaurants will surprise you and feel a desire to tile the whole of your house after admiring the tiles that decorate many of the buildings in and around town - they tell a story too! Also, see where JK Rowling might have got inspiration from for Hogwarts with a look inside one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world. Make the most of your car hire and drive your Porto car hire to the coast to enjoy long stretches of golden sand and perhaps even a refreshing dip in the sea!

The not-port drink to drink when in Porto

27 June 2012 By Luna Dizon
Yes, if you're in Porto, of course you should try the Port. If you're not going to be downing lots of the stuff, why not drive your Porto car hire over to Gaia on the other side of the river to try it on one of the cellar tours. But another drink that's a must try is actually a G&T at Peter's Café Sport bar on Ribeira on Porto's side of the River Douro... I'm told it's the best in the world!

Euro 2012 with a Francesinha in Porto

25 June 2012 By Luna Dizon
Introducing a Porto institution that's more Porto than Port wine. The Francesinha might have been created by a French chef who moved to the city but it's thoroughly Porto - it's a mammoth sandwich filled with ham, a Portuguese smoked sausage and steak. A big pile of melted cheese on top and doused in a special francesinha sauce that's a little spicy and a little tangy made with beer. Everyone in Porto has their favourite place to eat one, we drive across the bridge to Gaia for francesinha with a view. It's also the perfect thing to eat whilst watching football. With Euro 2012 on, what a great reason to try it! Discover more with your Porto car hire.

Eating Porto

25 June 2012 By Luna Dizon
My first time in Porto and in Portugal and I'm not just blown away by how pretty this hilly city is, the food's delicious! From meat sandwiches to cod and even tripe, you'll find the food range varied - as well as the places you can find to try them! You'll find places that are full of belle epoque grandeur as well as contemporary cool. As well as plenty of hole in the wall type cafés whose interior might not make you go wow but they can certainly make your taste buds go wow! Savour the taste of Porto with a great deal Porto car hire from CarJet.
