Fewer flights to and from Cyprus
Following on from an earlier piece we posted about flight cuts from the low-cost airline, Ryanair have confirmed that they will be not be flying to Larnaca in Cyprus between October and March, 2013. Reasons cited for the suspension centre on higher fuel costs as well as the ongoing recession across the continent. They did however also confirm that they would continue to fly to and from Paphos and London, Milan, Thessaloniki and Chania.
Hoping to go to Larnaca?

Flamingoes just chilling
Photo by Mike G. K. The winter months are a great time to visit Larnaca particularly if you're a bird watcher! Relatively mild temperatures keep Cyprus a good option if you're not too keen on cold weather.
If you do go, make sure you include a visit to the salt lake south of the city. The arrival of winter sees water levels in the lake start to rise and becomes a place where flamingoes flock to. The best time to see flamingoes here is from November to March. Also located by the lake is the ancient site of Hala Sultan Tekke, an important mosque and shrine to Umm Haram, who according to legend was the aunt of Muhammad. It'll be hard to miss on your way to the city from the airport and worth a visit as the site and setting make for a beautiful and serene experience.
You can explore it from 9am to sunset during the winter and from 7.30am to sunset in the summer. Admission if by donation.
Other options available for people want to go travel to and from Larnaca include easyJet, Monarch, Fly Thomas Cook and British Airways amongst others. Just don't forget to book your Cyprus car hire in advance for the best deals. We've got car hire in a number of locations on the island including Larnaca Airport car hire and Paphos Airport car hire (Paphos is about an hour and half's drive from Larnaca and the lake).
