If you’re planning a trip to Tenerife, you can’t miss a visit to Teide National Park. And the marvel of it all starts with the drive to the park from the sunny shores of the coast. Pass through the town of Vilaflor amidst dense pine forests and then drive up further above the clouds (if there are any) and you’ll meet spectacular views of Mount Teide, one of the highest volcanoes in the world. The park features a terrain that looks more lunar than subtropical. Strap on your hiking boots and explore some of the trails or reach the top of the peak by cable car. Wrap up warm for the peak – it’s over 3,700 metres high! But trust us, it’s worth the trip as you have panoramic views of other Canary Islands including Gran Canaria, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro.

Culture rich and lively Santa Cruz

Make sure your Tenerife holiday includes a visit to the historic and culture rich capital of Santa Cruz in the north of Tenerife. Go shopping on Calle Castillo, feel inspired by the art at the Municipal Museum of Fine Arts and check out the events calendar at The Auditorium – an architectural gem in itself. Soak up the sunshine on beautiful golden sand at Playa de las Teresitas just 8 kms from the city and finish off with good food and a cocktail or two in the Noria District. If you’re planning a trip in February, then a must-see and do is the Carnival of Santa Cruz – less famous but easily a rival to Rio’s.
